Please help me find the sum or difference of this problem: 
{{ -5 7/8 - 2 3/4 }}

They have like signs, so you add their absolute values:


   7           7
5 ———   =   5 ———
   8           8     

   3           6
2 ———   =   2 ———
   4           8
——————————————————
              13         8+5         8     5             5       5 
            7 ——— = 7 + ————— = 7 + ——— + ——— = 7 + 1 + ——— = 8 ———
               8          8          8     8             8       8

Then you put on their common sign.  So the answer is -8 5/8
