Question 18481: It's been a while since I've done algebra and I'm trying to help a co-worker's daughter pass a SOL test. The question is "What is the inverse of adding -5.2 to a number?" I think the inverse means the opposite, but am not sure. On reciprical numbers such as 5/6, you flop the numbers around, right?
Thank you-Kathleen
Answer by piglet162431(90) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
adding and subtracting is different then flip flopping numbers (recipricals)
The inverse of adding -5.2 will be subtracting -5.2
Which is +(-5.2) and can be simplified as -5.2
Flipping numbers are for multiplication and division.
2n=8
Now you need to flip the number of 2, which is 1/2.
2n(1/2)=8(1/2)
n=4
