Question 182899: A nursing student took a patient's pulse and determined his heart rate to be 74 beats per minute. At the same time, a monitor measured the patient's heart rate to be exactly 1.3 beats per second. Calculate the student's percent of error to the nearest tenth of a percent.

A nursing student took a patient's pulse and determined his heart rate to be 74 beats per minute. At the same time, a monitor measured the patient's heart rate to be exactly 1.3 beats per second. Calculate the student's percent of error to the nearest tenth of a percent.
------------------------------------------
74 beats per minute = 74/60 = 1.233 beats per seconds
----------
Quatitative difference: 1.3-1.233 = 0.067
---
The nursing student measure was 0.067 below the monitor measure of 1.3
0.067/1.3 = 0.051 or 5.1%
