Answer by pug912(10)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Translate "one-third of a number is 5 less than half of the same number" into maths equation.
Let a be the number.
a/3 = a/2 - 5
a/3 = (a-10)/2
2a = 3a - 30
a = 30.
To check the solution:
a/3 = 30/3 = 10
a/2 = 30/2 = 15
so one third of 30 is 5 less than half of 30.
