    -5 < y-2 <= 7.


Add 2 to the left, middle and right sides of this inequality.  You will get

    -5+2 < (y-2) + 2 <= 7+2,

or

    -3 < y <= 9.


At this point, the problem is just solved.


The solution is this infinite set of real numbers -3 < y <= 9.    ANSWER
