Question 1034634: Solve
Jack and Erin spent 1/4 of their money on rides at the fair. They paid $20 for food and transportation and returned with 4/7 of their money. How much money did they take to the fair?
Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Well if they returned with 4/7 of their money, that means they spent 3/7 of it.
If we call the amount they started with x, then we can write
(1/4)x + 20 = (3/7)x
Multiply everything by 28 to clear fractions...
7x + 560 = 12x
5x = 560
x = $112
