Question 102981: I am having a difficult time understanding rational, irrational and complex numbers. So far I have come up with (from my homework) 3-(-5)^1/2i as complex- is this correct? My question is what is (2)^1/2 + 2? I was thinking irrational but like I said I am having a difficult time with this. Thank you in advance for any help.

complex numbers have an imaginary (i) component
even roots of negative numbers are an example

irrational numbers are thoase that can't be written as a ratio (fraction) of real whole numbers
all of the "not perfect" roots fall into this category as well as things like pi and e (the base for natural logs)
