Pay attention to exactly what the interval notations say and what the set statements say;
A does NOT include the two boundary numbers but set B does include them.

(a)
A INTERSECTED with B is just set A; the values BETWEEN the the two boundaries are common to A and B.

(b)
A UNITED with B is set B; the union of the two sets, so this will INCLUDE the boundary values.
