Question 137253: What is the solution to x^2-2x+5=0 when you use complex numbers. I always end up with 1-2i and 1+2i but when I put those into the equation to check it, it doesn't come out to be 0. Is that because it is a complex number and there truly is no solution? This question did not come from a textbook but from a worksheet from the tescher. The text we use is the Glencoe Algebra 2 text. It didn't help when I tried to follow the examples given.

Question 137457: I would really appreciate it if I could get some help on this question, thanks.
The path of a falling object is given by the function s=-16t^2+vo+s0 where vo represents the initial velocity in ft/sec and so represents the initial height in feet. Also, s represents the height in feet of the object at any time,t,which is measured in seconds.
If a rock is thrown upward with the initial velocity of 40ft per second from the top of a 30ft building.
s= -16t^2+vot+so I figured out that much, then it asks after how many seconds will the graph reach maximum height?What is the maximum height? I just need help setting up the equation to solve for height.... The question comes from my online algebra class at aiu. HELP PLEASE. thanks, alaska

Question 137593: Problem: Solve polynomial inequality and graph the solution set on a real number line.
(x+1)(x+2)(x+3)>=0
I have set each of the terms to equal 0.
x+1=0 x+2=0 x+3=0
x=-1 x=-2 x=-3
Then I placed these three numbers on a number line as boundary points.
I used the following test points:
-1.5 which was >=0 (true)
-2.5 which was not >=0 (false)
-4 which was not >=0 (false)
0 which was >=0 (true)
I am confused on how to plot this on the number line and write the solution set in set builder notation. I think that I would use [ at -1 and go right, but I am not clear on whether the next point would be set at -2 or -3.
I would have [-1, infinity) and ?
{xIx>=-1 and ?}
Can you help me finish solving this problem. Thank you.
