Question 304665: the promblem is very confusing
The average annual undergraduated tution and fee charges C, in dollars for a certain 4 yr college for academic years 2000-2001 through 2005-2006 can be estmiated by the equation C=29.7x^2 +314.4x +3467.1, where x is the number of years after the 2000-2001 scademic year. assuming the model will remain valid beyond 2005-2006, in which academic YEAR will tution and fee charges be 8000?

Question 304739: Sir, i have a query about the representation of a quadratic equation of the form y^2=4ax, to be represented as parabola with the origin at (0,0).Well, the actual equation was S=ut+(1/2)a(t^2), one of the equations of motion.
I have tried solving it, but i cannot enclose a diagram here. I know how to derive the formula y^2=4ax mathematically, but i need help on how to derive it from the equation of motion stated above.
THANK YOU, AND PLEASE HELP.. I NEED THIS BY MONDAY, 17/05/2010.

Question 305090: Two young boys, Bob and Tom, are mowing grass one summer as a means of making money to save for their college education. They always split the work and proceeds equally. They have one lawnmower. They obtain a new job which involves mowing a 40' by 80' rectangular vacant lot. The owner wants it mowed in a collapsing pattern (begin mowing around the outside perimeter, with each pass moving closer to the center of the lot). Bob will mow first, turning the work over to Tom when he has mowed exactly half the area. Bob decides that he will stop at a uniform distance in from the perimeter on all sides, leaving a remaining rectangle for Tom to complete. At what uniform distance (in feet to 2 decimal places) should Bob stop mowing? Solve by creating and solving a quadratic equation. How do you solve this problem I do not understand?

Question 305086: It says: Solve by completing the square
equation: m^2-25/2x=5/2
the 25/2 is a fraction and the "x" is on the side, and the 5/2 is a fraction as well.
This is what I've tried so far:
I moved the "5/2" to the other side of the equal sign to where it looks like this:
m^2-25/2x-5/2=0
then I've tried to figure out how to square it

Question 305225: You are trying to throw a ball over w wire that is 40 feet above ground. The height of the ball is modeled by the equation h= -16t^2+40t+6.Will you be able to throw over the ball?
I got no you won't, but I'm confused on if I did it correctly or not. My teacher wants us to solve using the quadratic formula or factoring, but how do you do that when the equation is already given?

Question 305737: Please help me to solve this word problem. We have just started this new section and I just can't solve it.
Water from a fire hose is sprayed on a fire that is coming from a window. The window is 15m up the side of a wall. The equation H=-0.011x^2+.99x +1.6 models the height of the jet of water, H, and the horizontal distance it can travel form the nozzle, x, both in meters. What is the maximum height that the water can reach? and how far back could a firefighter stand, but still have the water reach the window?
