Question 425052: The formula y=2.6sqrtX +9 models the percent of U.S. adults who are considered obese by federal guidelines, where X is the number of years after 1980, and Y is the percent of obese adults. In this equation, Y is already converted from a decimal, so, for example, a 55% obesity rate would correspond to Y=55.
According to this formula, in what year was the obesity rate 15.4 percent?
Answer: In the year
Round to the nearest actual year.

Question 425432: A classic physics problem states that if a projectile is shot vertically up into the air with an initial velocity of 128 feet per second from an initial height of 112 feet off the ground, then the height of the projectile, h , in feet, t seconds after it's shot is given by the equation: h= -16t^2+128t+112
Find the two points in time when the object is 147 feet above the ground. Round your answers to the nearest hundredth of a second (two decimal places).

Question 425729: Use an Equation Editor to write mathematical expressions and equations.
Ticket Sales
Living in or near a metropolitan area has some advantages. Entertainment opportunities are almost endless in a major city. Events occur almost every night, from sporting events to the symphony. Tickets to these events are not available long and can often be modeled by quadratic equations.
Suppose you are an event coordinator for a large performance theater. One of the hottest new Broadway musicals has started to tour, and your city is the first stop on the tour. You need to supply information about projected ticket sales to the box office manager. The box office manager uses this information to anticipate staffing needs until the tickets sell out. You provide the manager with a quadratic equation that models the expected number of ticket sales for each day x. ( is the day tickets go on sale).
Tickets = -0.26x^2+13x+35
1. Does the graph of this equation open up or down? How did you determine this?
2. Describe what happens to the tickets sales as time passes?
3. Will tickets peak or be at a low during the middle of the sale? How do you know?
4. How many solutions are there to the equation ? How do you know?
5. Use the quadratic equation to determine the last day that tickets will be sold
Write your answer in terms of the number of days after ticket sales begin.
(Note: that we do not use partial days or negative sales)
So day will be the last day.
6. What do the solutions represent? Is there a solution that does not make sense? If so, in what ways does the solution not make sense?
7. Determine the number of tickets sold on the 52 day
8. Determine the number of tickets sold on the 1st day
9. After how many days will the peak or low occur?
Using
10. How many tickets will be sold on the day when the peak or low occurs?
Substitute x = ? into original model:
tickets are sold on the busiest day.
11. How many tickets will be sold on day 26

Question 426420: I am asked to create a quadratic function, y=f(x), that satisfies the following conditions:
f(7)=2, f(-5)=-10, and y-intercept is (0,6)
NO clue where to begin. I know I could do something if I had the x-intercepts. But what I start with is:
6=ax^2+bx+c , but then I come up with 6=c and I feel like I just need a starting point.
I was not tought this in my current class, supposedly this is suppose to be prerequisite homework...
Thanks for any help...Kate

Question 426954: 6x^2 - 7x - 5/ 3-x
(3x 5)(2x + 1)/ 3 x
After this point I have no idea what I'm doing.
The more i do it, the more I seem to drift from the rules of how to solve.
Can it be simplifies more than this?
