Question 190795: I have a question that I am having trouble with.
It is about venture capital. A man invested 12,000 in a new restaurant when the restaurant was sold 2 yearS later he received 27,000. I am to find the average annual return by solving the equation 12,000(i+r)^2=27,000

I have subtracted 12000 from each side giving me r^2=15000. This does not seems right. Am I on the right track? Can you please help?

The one problem I would like to ask is:
There are 3 square wheat fields. A man observed that the side of one field was 1 kilometer longer than the side of the smallest field and the side of the largest field was 3 kilometers longer than the side of the smallest field. The total area of the 3 fields is 38 square kilometers. I am suppose to find the area of each field.
I have tried setting up with x+(x+1)+(x+2)=38 or x^2+3x+3x+9
Am I on the right track in finding the correct answer? Please help.
