Question 297402: Find two consecutive integers such that the square of the sum of the two integers is 11 more than the lesser integer.
I'm having a terrible time solving this. According to the book, the answer should be (-2,-1).I believe the formula is:
x = lesser #
x+1 = greater #
(x+x+1)^2=x+11
(2x+1)^2=x+11
4x^2+4x+2=x+11 (subtract the x+11 to bring it to the other side)
4x^2+3x-9=0 (this is also where I get stuck)

Question 297403: I am having trouble with writing in 50 words why the line x=4 is a vertical line. I think that x=4 is a vrtical line because it is perpindicular to the y axis.Can you help me please? I would very much appreciate it.

z^2/1=z/5+6/5
I'm not sure if it's because it involves fractions and i just get really nervous but i'm not sure how to go about solving this problem...

Question 297707: Could someone describe how the discriminant can help you choose a strategy for solving a quadratic equation? I understand it can help you decide weather or not the equation has any real solutions rational or irrational but I don't understand anymore then that.

*i do not really know how to explain this question but here is my work if it helps. my teacher marked it wrong and i do not know what i did wrong.
