Question 11519: I get really lost on square roots and simplifying them
for example (3h-7)^2 = 32 then 3h-7= or- the square root of 32, then 3h=7 +or- the square root of 32, which is h= 7 +or- the square root of 32. Here is where I get extremly lost: how does h=7+or- the square root of 32 become: h= 7 +or- 4 the square root of 2 over 3 Please explain this last step to me. If I can understand why this happens then maybe I'll understand what is going on. I have been on this particular problem for two weeks and no one every puts it in terms I can understand. Why and how does this happen.

2.What is the axis of symmetry for the following parabola?
y = x(4 - x)
3.What is the vertex of the following parabola?
y = 4x² - 8

Question 12588: I'm supposed to find a family of quadratic equations passing through the points (1,0) and (-1,-2), using the general form y=Ax^2+Bx+C. So far, here's what I got:
1) Plugged in both points to the general form, giving me 2 distinct equations:
0=A+B+C
0=A-B+C+2
2) Made them equal to each other, giving me B=1
3) Subbed B=1 into either equation to get A=-C-1 and C=-A-1
Now this is the point where I get stuck, since if I use both B=1 and A=-C-1 to get the final two variables, I end up with nothing. Please help, and thanks so much!

Question 12730: please help me. solve the following.
2m - 5
------- = 3
9
First thing you do is multiply both sides by 9.
(2m-5)(9)/9 = 3(9)
The nines should cancel
2m - 5 = 3 x 9
We know that 3 x 9 = 27
2m -5 = 27
Then add 5 to both sides
2m - 5 + 5 = 27 + 5
The 5's cancel each other
2m = 32
divide both sides by 2
2m/2 = 32/2
m = 16
