Question 115684: I have a test tomorrow and am having a lot of trouble with quadratic equations. i understand some things, but others do not make sense at all. below are 3 problems that i do not understand how to solve. if you could solve the problems and show the steps, that would really help me a lot.
1. 3x^2 + 9 = 0
2. 2x^2 - 14x - 10 = 0
3. -2u^2 + 6 = 3u^2 - 10u
i attempted problem one and the answer i ended up with was x = the square root of 3. i thought for those types of problems there were supposed to be two answers though, like x + sq. root three and x equals (another number)

Question 116762: Hi I need help with a few math problems. I was sick when the teacher gave us the lesson. Im really confused. I will try to explain the problems as best I can.
First problem is Solved By using the Quadratic Formula
1) 4p^2 - 7p = -3
I have no idea what to do in this situation. I know you prefer if I try. But I honestly dont know where to start.
The second Problem is Findind the vertex.
y=x^2 + 2x + 2
Im pretty sure I did this wrong.
I got -1 but im not sure how I got it. The teacher marked it wrong, prolly cause I didnt show all the steps. (shes givin us an opportunity to correct problems)
The third problem is For the parabola
y=x^2 - 6x +8
Find the x intercepts
After doing the work (i prolly did it wrong) I got (x-4)(x-2)=0
and my final answer was x=2, x=4
If you could show the steps to this problem, as well as the others I would really appreciate it. Again any help you guys could give me I would really appreciate it.

Question 116754: A stamp collection consists of 5, 13, and 18 cent stamps. The number of 13 cent stamps is one less than twice the number of 5 cent stamps. The number of 18 cent stamps is five more than the number of 13 cent stamps. The total value of all the stamps is $2.60. Find the number of 13 cent stamps in the collection.
Here is what I have so far:
.05x + .13(2x+1) + .18((2x+1)-5)=2.60
Am I anywhere close? Can you help me solve?

So every now and then he will come in and pose a question for me to figure out the answer. I really would prefer you not post this. I would just like to know the answer please so I can go back to him. I have part of it figured out just not sure about the very last part?
Question is this> The length of a rectangle is 2 cm more than 3 times its width. If the area of the rectangle is 96cm squared, find the dimensions of the rectangle to the nearest thousandth.
Okay I figured it to this point 96=3w²+2w which can be written as 0=3w²+2w-96 By putting it in your quadratic equation solver I came up with 5.333 So do I just multiply the width 5.333 by 3 and then add 2 to get the dimensions Width=5.333cm and Length=17.999cm?
