Question 644161: A large plywood box has a volume of 12 ft3. Its length is 4 ft greater than its height, and its width is 1 ft less than its height. What are the dimensions of the box? Click here to see answer by DrBeeee(393)

Question 644162: Find all solutions, real and complex, of the equation. (Enter your answers as a comma-separated list. If there is no solution, enter NO SOLUTION.) x4 − 625 = 0 Click here to see answer by lwsshak3(6751)

Question 644110: A box with an open top is constructed from a rectangular piece of cardboard which is initially 20 inches long and 15 inches wide. The box will be formed by removing squares of length x inches from each corner and then folding up the sides (as shown below). Express the volume (V) of the box as a function of x. So I know that volume of a rectangle is A=lwh and that I probably need to find out the perimeter to get the sides? And then I think there's going to be an 8x used in there for all the squares they're taking out? I'm real confused, my teacher really can't teach our class well, literally the whole lecture hall frowns upon her lack of teaching skills. Click here to see answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(15746)

Question 644775: A box with no top is to be constructed from a piece of cardboard whose length measures 12 inches more than its width. The box is formed by cutting squares that measure 4 inch on each side from the four corners and then folding up the sides. If the volume of the box 256 in cm^3 what are the dimensions of the piece of cardboard? The Height? The width? It would be appreciated if you can show your work. Question 644837: x^6-2x^4-x^2+2=0 Am I supposed to factor by grouping here? x^4(x^2-2) -1(x^2+2) (x^4-1) (x^2-2) (x^2+2) Did I factor these correctly? What would be my next step? Or did I miss a step? I am totally lost with this problem. I am also having problems factoring terms that have higher than one as it's coefficient. Also, numbers with powers due to the zero product property being used. Click here to see answer by richwmiller(9144)

Question 645592: I'm working on quadratic equations with one variable using the quadratic formula. The step I am stuck on involves square roots. The step is as follows: y = -4 plus or minus the square root of -24 over (divided by) 4. I know that the answer (the software I use allows me to see the solution)is y = -4 plus or minus 2 square root of 6 i over 4. What I don't get is where the 2 in front of the square root symbol comes from. I have encountered a few of these problems and cannot work the solution out on my own. Question 646498: Hello professor. I'm having a real difficult time with this problem. My worksheet just says solve. I'm assuming its an equatic eq or completing the square. This is the problem. 3/3x-1/x+1=1 and my choices are, A.0 B. -1+the squareroot of 5 over 2 C. -3+sq root of 5 over 2 or D. 1+sq of 5 over 2. And my worksheet says solve the equation. So I think it's a quadratic eq but I dont know what to do since there's fractions. Thank you for your help! Click here to see answer by stanbon(57953)
