Question 623440: x² – 13x – 5 = 0 I need to solve this by completing the square.Which I think I have done? I also need to solve it graphically using the intersections of two equations. I'm not which two equations to use or how the intersction will help me find the solution?
Here is my work: completing the square
x² – 13x – 5 = 0
(x² -13x + 169/4)-5- 169/4 = 0
(x-13/2)(x-13/2)- 147/4 =0
(x- 13/2)² - 147/4 =0
(x- 13/2)² = 147/4 Take the square root of both sides
x- 13/2 = +- the square root of 147/4
x= +- the square root of 147/2 + 13/2
Is this right? I feel like I'm missing something or doing something wrong.
