Question 247930: How can this be solved by FACTORING. We have not yet gotten to the actual quadratic formula yet.
The equation is this: 25x^2=5x-1
Rearrange the formula to get: 25x^2+5x-1=0 but that is as far as I can get. I can't seem to be able to factor anything out of this. Thank you!

Question 248126: i need a little help to make sure i am doing this right.
Solve: 2x-5=(the square root of) x+20
this is what i have:
(2x-5)^2=x+20
4x^2-10x-10x+25=x+20
4x^2-20x+25=x+20
4x^2-21x+5=0
(4x-1)(x-5)=0
4x-1=0 or x-5=0
x=1/4 or x=5
but the question on my review has multiple choice answers of:
a) 1/4 b)16 c) 29 or d) 5
which is the right answer or am i correct in thinking that there are 2 possible answers?

Question 248262: Can you please help with these word problems I am terrible at word problems. I listed the problems below along with what I could figure out. Thanks in advance.
Solving Quadratic Equations by Factoring
1. Address book. The perimeter of the cover of an address book
is 14 inches, and the diagonal measures 5 inches. What are
the length and width of the cover?
x^2+14=5^2
x^2+x^2+14=25
2x^2+14=25
-14=-14
2x^2=11 don't know if this is right thus far and where to go from here.
2. Throwing a wrench. An angry construction worker throws
his wrench downward from a height of 128 feet with an
initial velocity of 32 feet per second. The height of the
wrench above the ground after t seconds is given
by S(t)-16t^2-32t+128.
-16(t+4)(t-2)is what I have so far!!
