w and L for width and length or original dimensions;
u for the uniform quantity to add onto each dimension; this is not the same as, "uniform width" common in some exercises.
A for the amount of area increase when u is applied.

The question to answer essentially is to find u. w+u and L+u can then be computed.

Area now,
Area next year, , again understand that u is NOT "uniform width of border".
Difference in areas,

Solve that equation for u.

w=15, L=18, A=340
