: square root(2x-9)= 1/3
The first thing I did was square both sides to get rid of the radical. This leaves: 2x-9 = 1/9
Am I supposed to add nine to both sides? When I tried to do this I ended up with this: 2x= 1/9+ 9
2x= 1/9+ 9/1
2x = 1/9+ 81/9
2x= 82/9
1. This doesn't seem right. How do I get rid of the 2?

Answer by edjones(8007)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
square root(2x-9)= 1/3
square both sides. 2x-9=1/9
multiply 9 times both sides. 18x-81=1
add 81 to both sides. 18x=82
divide both sides by 18 x=41/9
