Question 955837: What does the explicit equation for ALL linear equations look like? Label the rate and the y-interecept
Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
What does the explicit equation for ALL linear equations look like? Label the rate and the y-interecept
------
Form:: y = mx + b
---
If x = 0 (true on the y-axis), y will equal "b".
So, b is the y-intercept.
------
If x = 1, y will equal m + b
---
Notice that when x increase from 0 to 1, y increased from b to m+b
That is an increase of "m>
----
So, m is the slope. It is the amout y increases when x increases by 1.
