Question 943223: Hello,
Can someone help me with this "Completing the Square" problem?
I know there's a way of solving expressions that have a negative "x" squared, but I would really like someone to explain the solution using the "(x-h)^2=p" form.
This is the problem, thank you in advance:
"Solve by completing the square: -4x^2+3x+7=0"
Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I can show you the way I do it
Subtract from both sides
Divide both sides by
Take of the coefficient of the
term, then square it, then add it
to both sides
-----------------------------------
Believe it or not, both sides are now perfect squares!
Take the square root of both sides
And, using the negative square root of the right side,
--------------
So, the factoring would be:
Multiply both sides by
Divide both sides by
whew! This is a difficult one, but the
method is always the same
