Question 901712: 1.03x^2+2.02x-1.015=0
solve using quadratic formula.
I have a=1.03 b=2.02 c=-1.015
and plugged into quad formula and got x= 3.41 and .6267
can you check if i did this right or was i suppose to do something before setting the a,b,and c using the original equation.
Thanks in advance.

Solved by pluggable solver: SOLVE quadratic equation with variable
Quadratic equation (in our case ) has the following solutons:

For these solutions to exist, the discriminant should not be a negative number.

First, we need to compute the discriminant : .

Discriminant d=8.2622 is greater than zero. That means that there are two solutions: .

Quadratic expression can be factored:

Again, the answer is: 0.414759362188684, -2.37592441073237. Here's your graph:

i believe you did it right but i don't believe you got the right answer.

my calculations show that the roots are:

x = -2.376 or x = .415 rounded to 3 decimal places.

a = 1.03
b = 2.02
c = -1.015

x = (-b plus or minus sqrt(b^2-4ac)) / 2a which becomes:

x = (-2.02 plus or minus sqrt(8.2622)) / 2.06 which becomes:

x = (- 2.02 plus or minus 2.8744) / 2.06 which becomes:

x = .415 or x = -2.376 which agrees with what i showed you up above.

i also graphed the equation.

that graph is shown below:
