Question 882187: A motorcycle driver travels 15 kph faster than a bicycle rider. The motorcycle driver covers 60 km in two hours less than the time it takes the bicycle rider to travel the same distance.
i've answered all my assignments in math except this one. I don't know how to solve this coz i forgot how to do it. could someone help me so that i could study it. do tell if it is quadratic equation or not. Thank you so much.
Answer by josgarithmetic(39617) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
RT=D for rate, time, distance.
________________speed_________time_________distance_______EQUATION
motorcycle______r+15__________t-2__________60__________
bicycle__________r____________t____________60__________
This WILL take the form of a quadratic equation during the process of solving the system of the two equations. You can and should solve for r AND t.
Use the simpler equation in two ways. The quantity occurs as a result of multiplication in the motorcycle's equation and you use the bicycle equation again in eliminating one variable to find the other variable.
Can you use that, and solve the problem yourself?
