Question 873339: Question: Consider the graphs of y=x^2 and y=x^2-6...
a. Will either graph be narrower? Why or why not
b. What is the position of the vertex for each graph?
c. Will either graph open downward? Why or why not?
d. What is the range for each graph?
I understand fairly well what they're asking but I'm unsure of the answer because I don't know where the second equation y=x^2-6 would be located, as there are to ways it could be put. The (-) sign is confusing me. Would it be considered a negative sign or a subtraction sign? If you could explain this to me I would be very thankful.

Hi
the vertex form of a Parabola opening up(a>0) or down(a<0) is
where(h,k) is the vertex and x = h is the Line of Symmetry
You are comparing YOur Equations to this vertex Form for a Parabola
a. Will either graph be narrower? no, (coefficient of the squared term the same
b. What is the position of the vertex for each graph V(0,0) and V(0,-6)
c. Will either graph open downward? NO, coefficient of the squared term > 0
d. What is the range for each graph? y ≥ 0 and y ≥ -6
