Question 86807: Hi,
I've come to an unusual answer on a quadratic equation, and I would greatly appreciate if someone could verify it for me, so I know I've done it correctly.
The original equation read like this: 2(x-5)^2=3.
After factoring and using the quadratic formula, I came up with two completely different answers, which now has me highly confused as to which one is correct, so any help would be wonderful!
My first answer I came to was this: x = 10+/- sq.rt.6 / 2
My second answer I came to was this:x = 5+/- (3/2)^1/2
Now, I am very confused and lost, and am not sure which answer is correct...or if neither one of them are correct.
Please help!
Thank you!

Divide both sides by 2

Take the square root of both sides

Add 5 to both sides

So our answer is

So you're second answer is correct (its just using different notation)
