RESPONSE:
The shape is not u nor n. The shape is PARABOLA. The coefficient on the leading term is less than zero, being , so this means that the parabola has a maximum point and opens downward.
Transposing the equation into standard form, a good bit of work, will permit you to directly read the vertex and line of symmetry from the standard form equation. You do this change of form by Completing the Square.
As for finding the y-intercept, let x=0 and then compute what y is. This will be the y-intercept. One benefit of the standard form equation is that you can find the x-intercepts very easily, once you set y=0.
