Question 8582: ok i have 2 problems
how do you solve both of these equations without any decimals or irrational answers?
Answer by rapaljer(4671) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
These problems cannot be solved without irrational answers. If you calculate, from the quadratic formula for each of these problems, you do NOT get perfect squares. Therefore, the exact values of these answers cannot be expressed without square roots.
Another way of saying this is that since is NOT a perfect square, that means that the equations CANNOT be factored! Therefore the answers cannot be expressed exactly without radicals.
