f(x)=4|x+1|-6
Start at f(x) = |x|

1st step: |x+1| moves everypoint of f(x) 1 unit to the left.

2nd step: 4|x+1| steepens the slopes of f(x) = |x+1| by a factor of 4.

3rd step: 4|x+1|-6 lowers every point of 4|x+1| by 6.

and f(x)=1/4|x|+5
Start at f(x) = |x|

1st step: (1/4)|x| flattens the slopes of f(x) = |x| by a factor of 1/4

2nd step: (1/4)|x|+5 raises every point of (1/4)|x| by 5
