Question 832: how do you graph and solve this quadratic equation
-x2 + 3x - 2 = 0

Answer by pushpaharan(47)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
to graph you can either convert into vertex form or factored form.
lets do the vertex form
-x2 + 3x - 2 = 0
-1(x2 - 3x) - 2 = 0
-1(x2 - 3x+(3/2)^2-(3/2)^2) - 2 = 0
-1(x2 - 3x+(3/2)^2-9/4) - 2 = 0
-1((x-3/2)2 - 9/4) - 2 = 0
-(x-3/2)2 + 9/4 - 2 = 0
-(x-3/2)2 - 1/4 = 0
your vertex = (3/2,-1/4)
axis of symmetry is x=3/2
then draw the parabola.!!
oops it asked to solve too...
therefore its better use factored form
-x2 + 3x - 2 = 0
-1(x2 - 3x+ 2) = 0
x2 - 3x+ 2 =0
(x-1)(x-2)=0
therefore zeros are at x=2 and x=1
axis of symmetry => x= (2+1)/2 = 3/2
substitute the x=3/2 into the equation
-(3/2)^2+3(3/2)-2 =-1/4
vertex => (3/2,-1/4)
then draw the parabola.
solution's are x=2 and x=1
