Question 763084: Complete the square (step by step) for: 2x^2-4x+11. I can figure out up to:
2(x^2-2x)+11
2(x^2-2x+1)-1+11
2(x-1)^2+10
But, the answer in the book says: 2(x-1)^2+9. I can't figure out how it's a 9 instead of 10. Help!

Hi there,
You are almost right.
2x^2 - 4x + 11
2(x^2 - 2x + 11
(-2/2)^2 = 1
2(x^2 - 2x + 1) (2 * -1) + 11
2(x - 1)^2 + 9
Don't forget to multiply the
number by 2 that you are taking
across to add to the right
hand side.
Hope this helps.
:-)
