Question 724480: A company's costs, in millions of dollars, are given by the equation, C=x^2-3x-27, where x is the number of items sold, in thousands. What are the costs when 1,000 items are sold? and 1,500 items are sold?
I tried substituting 1,000 and 1,500 in the given equation but I was told that was wrong!!! HELP!!

You have to read carefully. The problem states "where x is the number of items sold, in thousands". So you have to convert 1000 and 1500 into a number of 1000's. For 1000 you use x = 1 and for 1500 you use x = 1.5.
