1st: y=ax^2+bx+c yields the graph of a parabola.
a determines how quickly the branches of the parabola spread.
b is a strong determinant of the x-intercepts of the curve.
c is a strong determinant of the vertical level of the lowest or
highest point of the parabola. This point is called the vertex.
