Question 7059: Please help!!! My instructor is asking what the basic principal is to simplify a polynomial? What is the relevance of order. We must turn in 200-300 words explaining
I know a polynomial is a single term or a finite sum of terms, powers must be positive. There are different types monomial, binomial, and trinomial. Iknow the polynomial has no specific value unless the variables are replaced by numbers. What is the basic principal? How do I describle the relevance of order? Please provide an example....Please help, it is due today.

basic principle to simplify?

well, you can only combine similar terms. That is one "principle" i guess.

A "monomial" in maths means a grouping of "a number and one or more variables" --> and the power doesn't have to be positive and whole: it can be negative or fraction or both.
Examples are:

x
4r

-2hj
etc

A polynomial is a set of "many" of these (LATIN: poly=many).

so 2x - 6gr is a polynomial.
as is

As to writing 200-300 words. Ha! Write 199 and be subversive.

50 words that are the correct words are much better than 250 crap words.

Anyway, I am not your teacher lol

Enjoy
Jon.
