Isolate the square
1 - 2(x+5)^2 - 6 = 15
1 - 2(x+5)^2 - 6 + 6 = 15 + 6
1 - 2(x+5)^2 = 21
1 - 2(x+5)^2 - 1 = 21 - 1
-2(x+5)^2 = 20

...
(x+5)^2 = -10
...
Take square root of both sides
= +/-
x+5 = +/-
x+5 = +/-
...
Isolate the variable
x = -5 +/-
...
Two solutions
