Question 660647: Gasoline mileage of automobiles is influenced by the horsepower of an automobile. below is a table of data, use the data to answer question
HP-49- 52- 55- 58- 61- 64- 67
MPG-65.4- 56.5- 46- 49.2- 40.3- 39.4- 36.1
a.Find the linear model that fits the data, round to four decimal places
b.Graph the model found in part a and the scatter plot of the data on the same axes. Discuss how the good model fits the data.
c. Using the model, find the miles per gallon of the automobile when the horse power is 60.
d. interpret, in words, what the slope of the model in part a represents
I swear my professor is nuts..I cant even find anything in the book to help, and have no idea how to show b in a graph. He says to use excel, so i just purchased microsoft office 2010 thinking it would maybe tell me how to graph something when I got that far but don't see anything about math problems when I open the program.

It's not as easy as just buying Office and just hit two keys or so. First of all you have to know how to set up the numbers in Excel and since it involves a scatterplot, and a linear model, you will need to turn on Data Analysis and perform a regression function. This will give you your linear equation that represents the graph associated with the independent and dependent variables.
You might need to hire someone who knows about this as it seems as though you're totally lost.
You could also use a TI-83 calculator but I guess you can't since the prof requires Excel.
