Question 657277: Hello, I'm having trouble solving the second part of this equation. Its a factoring problem. Here's my problem.
16x^4 -41x^2 +25=0
(x^2 -1) (16x^2 -25)
x=1 and x= 5/4
so, (1, 5/4) however my book also says (-5/4, -1) is also a solution. I dont know how to get that negative answer? Thank you so much for your time.

Answer by colliefan(242)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You did all the hard work. Once you solve for the possible values of x, look at the original equation and realize that in the factors, x is squared. Since 1 squared = -1 squared and 5/4 squared = -5/4 squared, these must also be solutions.
