In order to solve this problem you must remember that to add or subtract fractions you must have like terms on the denominator (or the value under the line).
Original problem:
x/5 - x/3 = 8/15
Step 1: Find like denominators
x/15 - x/15 = 8/15
Step 2: Multiply the numerator (the x in this equation) by the same value used to multiple the denominator.
3x/15 - 5x/15 = 8/15
Step 3: Subtract the numerators
3x/15 - 5x/15 = -2x/15
Step 4: Solve for X
-2x/15=8/15 (8 divided by -2 is -4)
x=-4
Hope this helps.
