Question 637013: 8/x - 3/x+1 = 5
Answer by checkley79(3341)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
IF you mean:
(8/x) - (3/x)+1 = 5 Then:
8/x-3/x=5-1
5/x=4
4x=5
x=5/4
x=1.25 ans.
Proof;
8/1.25-3/1.25+1=5
6.4-2.4+1=5
4+1=5
5=5
OR IF you mean:
8/x-3/(x+1)=5 Then:
[8(x+1)-3x]/[x(x+1])=5
[8x+8-3x]/[x^2+x]=5
[5x+5]/[x^2+x]=5
5(x^2+x)=5x+5
5x^2+5x=5x+5
5x^2+5x-5x-5=0
5x^2-5=0
5(x^2-1)=0
5(x+1)(x-1)=0 ans.
