Question 629611: A rectangular garden has dimensions of 18 feet by 15 feet. A gravel path consistent width is to be built around the garden. How wide can the path be if there is enough gravel for 328 square feet?
Answer by wilft1(217) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you could make the path 4 feet wide....
your dimensions are 18' x 15' i guessed it right the first time by trying a 4 foot wide path, sooooo...
lets find out exactly how long it will be
your short side, 15', thats gonna be two sides, so 15 x 2 is 30
your long side is 18 feet, we're estimating a 4 foot wide path, so we're gonna need to add 4 feet to each side of the 18' so that it overlaps the 15' sides, so that makes 2 sides of 26' long, both added up make 52'
add 52 to 30 and you get 82
multiply 82' by 4' and you will get 328 square feet
