Question 628517: 4. Take a number. Add 1. Square the result. Then subtract from it the product of the original number times two more than the original number. What did you get? I claim you will always get 1. Can you explain? I’m very confused on what to do here.

Suppose the number you think of is x.

"Add 1." x+1.

"Square the result." (x+1)^2 = x^2 + 2x + 1

Then you can take it from there.
