Question 625458: Use complete sentences to explain how you would use graphing technology to find the solutions of 0 = −x2 + 2.5x + 1. What do the solutions of 0 = −x2 + 2.5x + 1 represent on the graph of the equation?
Answer by jsmallt9(3758)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
  1. Enter the equation

    into the graphing calculator.
  2. Look at the graph.
  3. The x-intercepts of any graph are where the graph crosses/touches the x-axis.
  4. The y-coordinate of every point on the x-axis is zero!
  5. Since the equation we started with had a zero in the position for y, we are interested in these x-intercepts.
  6. Use the trace function on the graphing calculator to trace along the curve until you reach an x-intercept. This will be a solution to your equation.
  7. Repeat the trace to find the other x-intercept (which will be the other solution to your equation.
