musicals has started to tour, and your city is the first stop on the tour. You need to supply information
about projected ticket sales to the box office manager. The box office manager uses this information to
anticipate staffing needs until the tickets sell out. You provide the manager with a quadratic equation that
models the expected number of ticket sales for each day x. ( is the day tickets go on sale).

1. What general shape will the graph of this equation take? Does the graph of this equation open up or down? How can you determine this just from looking at the equation? The equation goes down because the coefficient of is a negative.

2. Think about the line as it would appear when graphed. What does the value of x represent? What does the value of y represent? What does the general shape of the curve tell you about how ticket sales change across time? As time passes, the sales of the tickets will increase, hit the highest point and then decrease down to zero.
3. Use the discriminant to determine how many solutions there are to the equation . Show your work.
Since the discriminant is greater than 0, the equation has two unequal real solutions.
4. Find the solution(s) to the equation. Is your answer in (c) correct?
5. What, in terms of days and tickets sales, do the solutions represent? Is there a solution that doesn�t make sense? If so, in what ways does the solution not make sense?
