Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You've got to get the right picture
width = w
length = w + 3
The 2" border actually adds 4" to the width and 4" to the length.
That's because there's 2" on each side of the photo
complete the square
take square root of both sides
take the square root of both sides
so, it's a 5x8 photo
check
OK
Answer by Cintchr(481) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Photo :
Width = x
Length = x + 3
The border adds two inches TO EACH SIDE, so that is 4 more inches to add to the length and width
Photo w/border:
Width = x + 4
Length = x + 7
Area + 108
FOIL
subtract 108 from both sides
factor
set each equal to 0
and
and
Lengths CAN NOT be negative values
Photo :
Width = x = 5
Length = x + 3 = 8
