Usually you are not given the values of x. You just make them up yourself. Of course, you should use easy numbers. I would say in most problems, just let x=0, x=1, x=2, x=-1, etc. It really depends upon the problem. If you know it is a straight line, then you only need about 2 points. If it is NOT a straight line, it may take a half dozen or more points, depending upon how good you are a figuring out the pattern of numbers, and the shape of the graph.

Do you have a graphing calculator?? That's handy if you are allowed to use one. Your particular graphs should look like this:
