Question 492586: I have to find the y-intercept, the equation of the axis of symmetry, and the x-coordinator of the vertex. 2. make a table of values that includes the vertex 3. use the information to graph the function. My problem is, I do not understand the rules for solving the equation.
f(x)=x to the second power - 8x + 15. please help. I would also like to know the explanaions as to what equation to use to solve the problem.
Thanks, Deonte
Answer by WhuddaPeach(6) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
It is a polynomial. You have to factor it.
This means
The zeroes are 3 and 5, so the line passes through these points at the x axis. These points are the vertices.
It is an upward facing parabola, because the coefficient in front of (x-s)(x-5) is 1, though you don't see it.
The axis of symmetry is 4, because that is halfway between the two zeroes.
