Question 463986: factor: the polynomial
2r^2+5r+4
Please show me step by step to get the answer. Thanks

Answer by Alan3354(69443)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
factor: the polynomial
2r^2+5r+4
---------
It's all positive numbers
It has to be (2r + a)*(r + b), a & b have to be 1 and 4 or 2 and 2.
Since 5 is odd a has to be odd.
--> (2r + 1)*(r + 4)
That doesn't work, so it can't be factored.
