The answer in my book for this problem is (-5 + sqrt17)/2 or (-5 - sqrt17)/2

I am having trouble figuring out how to get this answer. This was my latest attempt to it.
x^2/2 + 5/2x = -1
2x^2 + 5x = -2
2x^2 + 5x + 2 = 0
Im lost as to what I am doing wrong with this one.

You are right. The book is wrong. This is bound to happen sometimes when the aurthor of the book has probably put hundreds of answers in the book. Everyone makes a mistake sometimes.
This happened to me when I was at school. I wrote a letter to the book publisher, and they corrwected the error in the book and sent me a free copy of the new book with a thankyou note!
