Solving using the quadratic formula. 

 3x^2+2x-1=0     | Note general form: ax^2 +bx + c = 0

 

 

 

   x = -6/6 = -1

   x = 2/6 = 1/3



CHECKING our Answer***

  3-2-1 = 0   |x = -1

  1/3 + 2/3 - 1 = 0   |x = 1/3
