change to
-y-4y-4=0
(-y+2)(y-2)=0
-----------
solve for y
(-y+2)=0
(-y+2-2)=0-2
(-y)=-2
divide by -1
y=2
-----------
(y-2)=0
(y-2+2)=0+2
y=2
so the answer is y=2
